Going back to Yoga

The alternative lifestyle has always appealed to me greatly. If I were too choose which decade I would have been born, I'd choose the 80's and relish all the new age thing going on. I'm interested in all sorts of things like tattoos, 80's music, meditation, witchcraft, Rick Astley and yoga. Although I took up Yoga classes several years ago, I never really got to practice it regularly.

Good thing Jane helped organize an event for bloggers at the Vinyasa Yoga Center. When asked to join, I didn't even blink an eye - I immediately said yes. Although some non-practicing people would not approve of people with excess fat such as myself to do Yoga, I actually prefer doing this rather than doing low-impact aerobics or dancing. Yoga is not just low impact, it also helps one's breathing, body alignment, body movement, flexibility and awareness.

Plus, Yoga will never force you to go beyond your limit. That's what I love about it. If you can't touch your toes with your hands, you're don't have to. Just work on it everyday until you achieve your goal. Relaxation by doing the corpse (you just lie down like a corpse) is required for each session - the body also needs rest, not just exercise.

Yoga isn't just about stretching and relaxation, if you allow it. Doing the poses will help you achieve balance of the body, mind and spirit. I told you I was new wave. You can start looking at videos at youtube if you're interested then if you're serious, sign up for a class.

Some yoga practitioners are also vegetarians. Good thing Pio, our instructor, volunteered to cook vegetarian dishes for us like this mouth-watering pasta, veggie burgers and an eggless leche flan.

The best thing about this event isn't really the food - don't get me wrong, everything was yummy! After the event, I promised myself I would do the Sun salute (a series of poses) and some basic Yoga poses like the tree, the warrior and the lion twice a day - when I wake up and before I go to bed.

I regret that I stopped practicing Yoga all these years. Now, I'm back on track.
